that become
yours & mine
i met my first husband (guy on the far left in above pic) when i was young, there is a picture of a group of children at a golf course function of some sort - I can't recall exactly but I was maybe 5 years old in the picture, which means Chad would have been 10 or 11? he was sitting directly behind me in this childhood picture and would be my husband 2 decades later
our families knew each other casually through church & the small community i grew up in, his dad (2nd from the right in the above pic) and mine were both in different aspects of the construction/concrete business and i remember getting hand me down clothes from his sister! (I can still recall a favorite United Colors of Benneton sweatshirt. 😍)
chad's younger brother, the 2nd from the left in the pic, was just a couple years older than me and a friend of mine in highschool (the man on the far right is Chad's oldest brother)
my first real date with Chad, wasn't until I was a junior in college - Chad had jumped around a bit since high school attending a couple colleges and doing intern work in DC and happened to be back at Purdue to finish up his degree - he'd invited me to a Purdue basketball game in February, I believe it was, and that was our only date until I ran into him that summer - my brother and dad were playing in a golf tournament at that same home town golf course I mentioned above - and while I don't think Chad was playing in it - he was there watching - we ended up going to a movie together, either that night or the next, and that started a summer of dating and by Nov 27th we were engaged and the next December 18th we married at the church we both grew up in

Yep, it sure is funny what has left such a strong mark on what was a 16 year marriage to Chad... there are many things no doubt - but time has surely proven Don to be one of them - the grandfather of Chad and the middle man in the above photo... Don was who he was - a man who, from my point of view, was as simple as he was complex, content and regimented in his physical surroundings while vastly expansive in that head of his - a knowledge consumer - before Don passed in Nov of 2014, God used him so mightily to steer our path in a direction that ultimately lead to Ms. June's arrival this side of heaven
and I'm proud to carry a piece of his lineage in my daily life - being the mother to his great-grandaughter is a special gift to me - she is a tie that connects - a part of a large picture- from those who've passed on into enternity, to those living in London, Virginia, Nashville, Massachusetts, and Indiana - and she, by God's grace, is a beacon that will extend lines into the future
in searching through pics to find the one I posted - i came across this video and now after writing - it feels fitting to include it - it's a little on the long side but I think the ending makes it worth it
