Jewels

Her name was Julie

I've shared of her before

A God-crafted heart

with specific strands

that made up a most

masterful piece of art

the day I saw here there

across a foyer

tall with

beauty rare

to learn later she'd be down the hall

Purdue, McCutcheon, 4th Floor

friends with her was to explore

beauty beneath surface

she loved the Lord

chose her profession

feeling nearest to Him there

flying high in the sky

a pilot in the air

that same love

took life from her lungs

but the powerful song within

i can hardly call unsung

i had a bracelet made

i made it just for me

18 years had passed since '97

the bracelet for remembering

people who inspired me

or things my eyes had seen

most of which I knew to be

miracles handed

from God to me

A charm was picked for Julie

round and sparkling white

unlike all the other charms

not one thing dangled down in sight

it reminded me her precious life

from this viewpoint gone too soon

her life with so much vision

never witnessed by me or you

I often wonder if in crafting her

He knew she'd speak in wonder

in wonder small inside many hearts

she'd touch with God-breathed purpose

family, friend, or stranger

who could recall her smile

her joy her love

and ask of a loving God why?

why God did you not take me

a wonderer through and through

a girl who still at 43 asks

God what am I to do

but not that Angel

she loved you so

and diligent in her work day and nite

bringing joy where ever she went

a life too short yet well-spent

God doesn't measure success

the way the world seems to

so I refuse to waste any time

comparing

her to me

me to you

If there's anything her Angel Whispers

have laid upon my ears

it is just how mysterious our God is

He's faithful through the years

crossed paths so short but true

true and solid through and through

her Spirit's been a teacher

forever friends me and you

Miss Swengel

From my soul,

thank you

for helping me to see

precious value come to life

in every wondering

for it is true

this day

a gift

no matter what may be

for i'm only here a little while

to love, to laugh

to praise

to sing
